The anatomy of an emotional rollercoaster..

So it started out like this..

I was reading a blog where someone made a common/funny band name typo in a comment..

Highschool was a confusing time for me. This was not made any easier by the fact that there was an early 90’s metal band named Firehouse and a respected punk band fronted by the revered Mike Watt named Firehose. To make things even more difficult, I was a fan of both. This was a secret that I kept very guarded. See, the canned response in my circle to someone who hadn’t caught on to the fact that there were two bands was “no stupid.. FireHOSE not FireHOUSE.. fuck that hair metal band!”.

So anyways when I read the typo I could envision the awesome music video for “Don’t Treat Me Bad” that prompted me to buy Firehouse’s debut album in Jr High. Then I went to youtube and found the video and started thinking about how I need to share this with everyone. It’s youtube so that will be easy!

here’s where the down swing begins..

Really Sony/BMG? I can’t share the love with my friends, family and the other 3 people who’ve stumbled upon this page? lameness.. I tried to find a embeddable version of the video but it turns out that nobody else has uploaded the video except for the record company.. I was so excited about everyone watching this video and being like wow this Firehouse video is awesome. It’s got fire, a hot 90’s girl, random banks of colored neon lights, a firetruck, drumstick acrobatics… the list goes on. But now all I can share with you guys is this awesome screengrab.

I then went a bit further in my misery and thought.. “who am I kidding.. the 5 people that read this probably wouldn’t even watch the video.. they don’t really care about Firehouse anyway.. they don’t understand how hard it was liking both Firehose and Firehouse in highschool”.

So this all took place in about 5 minutes. I’d truly hit rock bottom. If they were doing the VH1 behind the music of larson’s Firehouse breakdown this would be the part where they would show stock footage of someone cooking up heroin whilst interviewing my friends and family who would all be saying “we had no idea”…

At this point I decided enough was enough. I shouldn’t sit here dwelling on how I was a weirdo in highschool or how Sony/BMG are stupid enough to not allow embedding of a video from 1991.. I’m better than that, and to celebrate this realization I watched every Firehouse video I could find on youtube. They are pretty much all the same except one has a helicopter in the beginning. I realized that truly nobody else really probably wanted to watch these videos except for me and that’s totally ok.. I was happy again..
