So this past saturday The Real Unicorns Bike Gang participated in their first alleycat bike race.
I can be really hard headed and bitchy about certain things.. you ought to have heard last night’s diatribe that Serena got to enjoy regarding people who use mason jars instead of mugs. It was misguided and dumb.. but sometimes we just have those moments.
Anyways I never really thought that I would partake in one of these races but when a posse of friends started mounting I agreed. It was Dia De Los Muertos themed so we did it up right.
Seeing as how I was still on the fence about diving into alleycat culture I was pretty stoked on being in disguise.

Arriving at the start we started getting antsy. I friend of mine didn’t recognize me at all.. Now I know what Kiss must have gone through.
Rain and I started out all nonchalant but, as were are want to do, we kicked it into full on competitive mode in the first 10 minutes..
Here I am at mile 26 or so of around 30.. At this point I was shooting this photo to see if I had any face paint on as it had been raining and at one checkpoint we had to bob for apples.
Rain and I came in 17th and 18th out of about 71 riders. I was stoked and fully enjoyed the food and booze that were provided at the after party. I was surrounded by bike nerds and fully enjoyed talking about how stoked I was on my particular sock selection that day and how much I love Voler jerseys.
I’m still coming down from the high of that race. I love being proven wrong and having a blast while doing so. Get out there and do something you’ve kinda always wanted to try but have been hesitant to do… it might just be ruling!
