Albums of 2009

7 - Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Favorite Tracks: 1901

OMG, who knew the French made awesome music?!?! Seriously.

6 - Passion Pit - Manners

This is just an all around great album.

5 - Laura Gibson - Beasts Of Seasons

Favorite Tracks: Funeral Song

Laura Gibson is, for me, a reminder that opening acts can be wonderful. Thanks Colin Meloy!

4 - Harlem Shakes - Technicolor Health

Favorite Tracks: Sunlight

I swear, nine out of ten times that a song would come up on a genius playlist that I liked but didn’t know I’d ask AIW who it was and he’d guess, "the Harlem Shakes?" And he would be right! And so I eventually listened to the whole album.

3 - Editors - In This Light And On This Evening

Favorite Tracks: Bricks and Mortars

Dark ’n moody.

2 - Various Artists - Dark Was The Night

Favorite Tracks: So Far Around The Bend (The National)

What is this album all about? I don’t even know. Is "Dark Was The Night" a band? A producer? Who knows, but it’s got some good tunes from some of my favorite recording artists.

1 - Camera Obscura - My Maudlin Career

Favorite Tracks: French Navy

This album is great, it was in the CD player in my car for a long time until I almost burnt out on it and had to take a break. Now Fiest’s first album is in the CD player. Although both are good, I like My Maudlin Career better.

Singles of 2009

5 - Morrissey - "It’s Not Your Birthday Anymore"

I love you Morrissey, I hope you’re feeling better.

4 - Jeremy Enigk - "April Storm"

I think this album would probably be in my top ten if I ever listened to it, but I haven’t really. However, I have listened to this song and it is great.

3 - The Decemberists - "The Hazards of 4 (The Drowned)"

I think I only listened to the whole album once, but I really like this song.

2 - The Antlers - "Bear"

Catchy song in the midst of so much sadness. I like how it picks up and slows down.

1 - Bon Iver - "Blood Bank"

For a long time I thought he was saying "When I met you at the blood bath." Which gives this song a waaay different feel. I still like it though.

Best concert of 2009

OONA

I know I’m biased, but my sister is a total rock star.

Biggest musical dissapointment 2009

I think my only disappointment was that I didn’t listen to more music.

Most overrated album of 2009

Dirty Projectors-Bitte Orca

I wasn’t going to say that this album is overrated, because I think everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but then Sasha Frere Jones wrote a love letter to this album, which makes it okay to now call it overrated.

Most anticipated album of 2010

Frightened Rabbit-Swim Until You Can’t See Land

I highly anticipate loving this album. After all, this is the band whose first album includes the lyric "You’re the shit and I’m knee-deep in it" and makes it sound good.
