Albums of 2009

10 - Julian Plenti - Julian Plenti Is... Skyscraper

Favorite Tracks: Only If You Run

He says to "We’ve got the weights and we’ve got the measures" and that rules..

9 - Dragonette - Fixin to Thrill

Favorite Tracks: Easy, Pick Up The Phone, Don’t Be Funny

Found out about this band from a facebook status update. Looked them up on youtube and kinda became a mega-fan. The album is really good for solo dance parties. They are canadian and currently I’m watching a canadian TV show from Netflix.. so maybe that’s what that’s all aboot!

8 - Neko Case - Middle Cyclone

Favorite Tracks: People Got A Lotta Nerve

She calls them "Killer Whales" but I call them "Panda Whales"

7 - The Antlers - Hospice

Favorite Tracks: Bear, Two, Epilogue

I listened to this a lot before my son was born. It kinda scared the shit out of me becuase it seems like it’s more about the scary side of the hospital. To me though its about the good side of the hospital.

6 - Laura Gibson - Beasts Of Seasons

Favorite Tracks: Spirited

I love her bunches. She played here like 3 times this year and I didn’t go to any of the shows. How big of a douche am I?

5 - The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love

Favorite Tracks: The Hazards Of Love 4 (The Drowned), The Wanting Comes In Waves / Repaid

Love these dudes. This album prompted many long discussions at work as to what it was about. Then I read the wikipedia about it and kinda ruined that game for everone.. my bad!

4 - The Dodos - Time To Die

Favorite Tracks: Small Deaths

One of those albums where you hear the opening track and think this gonna be good.. and it is.

3 - Camera Obscura - My Mauldin Career

Favorite Tracks: French Navy, The Sweetest Thing, James

I really feel they hit their stride with this album. French Navy is bonkers good! I want to get all kissy face like they do in the video for the song.. you should too!

2 - Passion Pit - Manners

Favorite Tracks: Little Secrets, Sleepyhead

Holy dancefest. I introduced this to a coworker who hated it at first and then blasted it on the regular. You kinda want to not like it but you totally love it. If it was a facebook relationship it would be complicated.

1 - Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Favorite Tracks: Lisztomania, 1901, Lasso, Girlfriend

A month and a half plus of starting out my workday with this album spells out album of the year to me.

Singles of 2009

5 - Envy Corps - "Screen Test"

My guys from last year apparently released an E.P. "Screen Test" seems like it would have fit seamlessly on Dwell and I mean that very much as a compliment.

4 - Jeremy Enigk - "April Storm"

Mr Enigk’s voice is one in a million.. this song makes me happy every time.

3 - Bon Iver - "Blood Bank"

iTunes genius says I really like this song and works it into nearly every playlist it makes. iTunes is right!

2 - Julian Casablancas - "11th Dimension"

The album isn’t really doing it for me but this song rules super hard!

1 - Editors - "Bricks And Mortar"

The new comer always gets preferential treatment and I just recently got really into this song.. Channeling Ian Curtis is always going to win points with me...

Best concert of 2009

Milo Jenkins

I wanna sleep with Cheney!!! .. again..

Biggest musical dissapointment 2009

Jetpacks

Why the fuck don’t we have them yet?

Most overrated album of 2009

Facebook Ads

People freaking out about their images being used for ads. Dude.. facebooks owns your ass. Move on.

Most anticipated album of 2010

Frightened Rabbit

"Swim Until You Can’t See Land" is what I hope is a lovely precursor to another gorgeous album.
