According to iTunes, I only bought 11 albums that were released in 2008. This is the one I've listened to the least -- other than No. 11 which was the new NIN album, which is "meh" -- and I can't say I've liked anything I've heard a lot. Still, it's decent and therefore good enough for me to list, I guess.
Another album that I haven't really given as much of a chance as I probably should. What I've heard, I've liked, but nothing has really grabbed me yet. Although, I'm listening to "Another Way In" right now, and really digging it.
I think this album was fine, but none of the tracks really jumped out at me the way past albums had.
Truth be told, I haven't listened to this album as much I would have liked, but everything I've heard I've rally enjoyed.
I really liked their stuff when I first heard it and this could end up being one of the albums that sticks with me through the years, but my instant smittenness wore off after a few listens.
Another band that I recently discovered and just instantly liked.
I'm not sure this is one here because I really loved it, or it was my most recent purchase and made an instant impact. Anyway, this SF rapper is pretty awesome. Definitely give "Showtime" a listen.
I've been aware of My Morning Jacket for years only because I have a good friend who keeps telling me how great they are. Until this album, I really couldn't see what he loved so much. For whatever reason, though, Evil Urges -- especially "I'm Amazed" -- made a believer out of me.
I am guilty of falling for Coldplay's mass appeal when their debut album came out almost a decade ago. But I had also succumbed to tiring of seeing and hearing them everywhere. But I have to admit that this album really won me over. There, I said it.
I think I liked this album mainly because it was a pleasant surprise. I kind of stumbled across it and while it may not have the most staying power, it's the album I found myself most talking about.
I guess if thise was my favorite album, one of the tracks should be listed higher. Part of what I liked though, was that all the songs were good, but this was probably the standout.
Supposedly, these guys are listed under gospel. I don't know about their politics, but this track is fun.
This was the first time I heard a MMJ song and didn't say, "So, this is the new Neil Young..." It's just rocky enough to keep it interesting and unlike their other stuff, the Southern-style 70s guitar work didn't bother me in the least.
I realize this probably costs me cool points, but of all the songs released this year, this one is about the catchiest -- and not in an annoying way. This is what I love about Coldplay, catchy but not annoying, easy-listening but not KWAV-y. What can I say, I'm not that complex when it comes to music.
Look, I realize this song came out a few years ago. But, I hadn't heard it until this year, so there. More than any other song I heard this year, this one really made me want to move and smile.
