I love their music as well as Lanegan's voice. It sounds a bit spooky, but in a good way. Although I found this one late in 2008, I think it will rise to the top of my 2009 playlist for sure.
This album is a nice alternative to one of my favorite artists, Laura Cantrell.
Laswell sounds a lot like Chris Martin from Coldplay, but his songs are much more upbeat. Great Sunday afternoon tracks -- Nightrain does a nice summary in his July review.
I love the Jayhawks and was excited about Louris's solo album. He does not disappoint.
Her sweet voice and hints of Petula Clark (an instant hit in my book) had me hooked.
Ron Sexsmith, need I say more? He can do no wrong in my opinion.
Upbeat and fun, Lenka's first album had me dancing in the shower, in the car, and on the sidewalks.
She sounds like a young Dusty Springfield and "Dark Fades into Light" never fails to brighten my mood.
Given that the Weepies solidly hold 50% of our "top played 2008 songs" I think it's safe to say this was a favorite. Their sweet melody and melancholy lyrics got me through a very rough spring.
One of my favorite artists. This album was long overdue, but well worth the wait.
It's so damn catchy. I can't help myself.
This one got a lot of play time early in the year, but I forgot about until tonight. Glad it reemerged.
This is one of those songs I could listen to over and over again...and have. And still love it!
They're dry and hilarious in a stiff, French duo sort of way. I can't get enough!
One of my favorite songs from her newest album. Makes you want to grab a drinking buddy and sing.
Seriously, rocks my world.
Clever lyrics, adorable french accent, and totally insane. Love her!
Oh man, I love this duo. They'd be like, you wanna have my babies? And I'd be like, yeah. And we'd go woo woo woo.
Also another one of my top 10 favorites this year. Atkin's voice is powerful and her retro crooning makes me belt out tunes like Rufus Wainwright singing Judy Garland.
This is probably one of my top 10 albums this year, but alas, it was released in 2007. He's another singer-songwriter who stole my heart.
The attendance was low, so it felt like my own private concert. Ron Sexsmith is great live and played a set of my favorites.
