I'm going to break all of Jesse's rules because I think he made them all to be broken. I also will offer some explanations because I think it's more interesting sometimes to hear why people chose certain albums and songs etc. I'll list 5 2007 albums and a couple other albums and then I put together a mix of 17 songs that I listened to frequently this year. I decided that making a mix of songs that you listened to each year is a good present to share at Christmas with friends that you don't see very much and maybe even a nice way to archive the soundtrack to your life.
I didn't like it at first. Turns out, I was wrong. Happens all the time
Every person I played this album to loved it. My country western friend. My hip hop coworker. My radio rock alternative roomate. My Jewish friend Shai who hates everything. Everyone. How is this guy not a household name yet?
I wish I knew how to quit you gay glam rock. Plus, until Michael Jackson comes out with a new album, Jake Shears is the best thing going when it comes to a good falsetto.
I admit I'm late to the game on this one. I had a crush on this amazing voice I kept hearing. Turns out she's beautiful, rail thin and a drunk too. I'm in.
Love this guy, although, for some reason, I prefer the Franz Ferdinand version of All My Friends.
I was first repulsed by these guys because I thought they were way to pretentious. Then I saw them in concert and I am happy to report that it is probably usually 50% an act. I think. Regardless, people got sick of listening to this in my car.
This album is here because it was the right album at the right time. With a title like Give Up, enough said.
Turns out, the Swedish singer isn't the really hot girl on the album cover. Too bad. After listening to Ego, she still has my permission to punch me in the face.
Best song on the album, which I liked, but not as much as this one song.
My favorite song on this album, not necessarily everyone else's.
This song was stuck in my head for about a week before I could come up with the title. I didn't know the words, but I'd try to sing it to random people to figure it out. Wasn't pretty.
And I told you to be patient...and I told you to be fine.
Found some acoustic stuff of hers online. I put this in instead of anything from the album because it's just her, a guitar and that mighty voice.
I had never heard of these guys. I stumbled across this song. I'm a huge fan. If you haven't heard this song. Google it now.
Two little girls recorded this really old song in the 60s, I think, and then it was made famous again by Steve Allen in the Jerk. I know all of this because I heard this song in a store in Chicago and became obsessed with it. What can I say. It struck a cord.
Covered him already. I have to say that I hate singing this hook out loud. As ridiculous as anything Fergie has ever imagined. Okay, maybe that's going a little far.
Didn't go with the Elton John song because that was too easy. But it's really good too.
Jesse got me into these guys. He knows about me and gay glam rock. Enabler.
I love this version of this song. I love the original too. Do I have to choose?
As good a club track as I've heard in awhile. I forgive them for being French.
Another recently discovered group. They have a couple of songs on this album that don't sound like anything else on the record, in a good way.
I somewhat randomly saw these guys live earlier this year. What a spectacle. Think, well, gypsy punk. There were little Romanian girls playing the accordian and an old guy that looked like Willie Nelson on the fiddle. But, as with any punk show, after four encores and not enough to drink, I was more than happy to leave.
Another older song that I was obsessed with this year. You know you love it.
Clearly this song was written because Colin decided he needed a good encore song. But the cacophonic ending sounds like they couldn't figure out how to end it on the album. Live, it makes sense.
I just like it, okay. Leave me alone.
See above.
